PHILIPPINE CRUCIFI

Statuettes in the Collection of Artist Wayne Forte ...

The old and discarded find new life.
In our time of the new, our time of commoditization, where we find less value placed on unique meaningful things made by hand, expressions that have unique voice... these small crucifixes speak of an importance original art plays in our lives.

BORN AGAIN

Figures once catching the prayers of the faithful in small churches of a Philippine island came of age and were replaced. These Crucifixes have found there way to California where they begin a second life as religious artifacts.

KEEPING THE PHILOSOPHY

LeFever was given permission to document the figurines and chose to stay with his LIVE philosophy of documenting things and people as they are, where they are - in place as anyone else would see them if they were to look. Following this tenet, but adding a light and a reflector to make up for shifting window lighting, LeFever observed where they were arranged in the dining room of the Forte residence and began shooting. Wayne's artwork provided textural backdrops behind the small crucifix figures. Each statuette was also cataloged in traditional black background as a documentation.
