Taking a day by special invitation, LeFever was afforded the opportunity to casually photograph candid shots of the industry surrounding Dolores Train Yard in Long Beach. Taking a Pelican Case containing cameras, lenses and a Quantum Flash, the day provided a beautiful clear morning sun and a tour of several shooting sites.
Dolores is a former Southern Pacific engine facility, still at work along the Alameda Corridor. The yard itself parallels Alameda Blvd, and the light is perfect in the morning. The yard was built in 1943, and is one of two gateways to the LA/Long Beach port.

Draw Bridge: an unexpected highlight of the day was access to one of the Long Beach Port draw bridges.
From the top, sweeping views of the Long Beach Harbor and Palos Verde were available. Inside the cable tower are the huge red pulleys over which the cables raise and lower the draw bridge for passing ships.
From the bridge one is offered a view of three of the four modes of shipping transports, truck, train, ship.
