Another Photojournalism adventure, this time to the early workplace of Tom Waits, Napoleone Pizza House, where Waits washed dishes prior to his success as a songwriter and recording artist.

Brian Nixon, writing an article on the hymns of Tom Waits, recruited LeFever to sup at Napoleone's and snap a few shots. Located in one of the run down areas of San Diego, CA., Napoleone Pizza House caters to many locals and tourists that venture into this shop made known as a Tom Waits historical site. The Pizza? Fantastic!

" ... Tom Waits worked here in the late 1960’s.  He was a bus boy and dishwasher.  He even wrote a song about it on his second album, The Heart of Saturday Night.

As his ambitions progressed, so did his work location: he moved up the coast a tad to Mission Beach and worked as a doorman at the Heritage, a coffeehouse and performance spot. In the early 1970’s, Waits gravitated even further north towards Los Angeles, finding his home in old hotels and dirty bars." ...
